Voting For Peace
It’s election eve, and it feels like the nation is balanced on the edge of a razor. As I have mentioned previously, I truly believe that the outcome of this election could secure the Second Amendment for not just we current gun owners, but for future generations. The fight to secure gun freedom will never really be over, but another four years of President Trump could allow us to build some real fortifications against the endless onslaught on gun rights.
This election could also initiate a sequence of infringements which will make bloodshed inevitable at some point. If a President Biden (and eventually, President Harris) are able to enact even half of their stated gun control agenda, things will come to a head and somebody, somewhere will start pulling triggers. It will happen, and there are enough Americans who will go to war over guns that nobody will be happy if it comes to that.
I do not want to go there. I want peace.
I’m reminded of a quote attributed to Gen. James Mattis, addressing Iraqi military leaders following the invasion:
That is not what I want. I will say definitively, is that I will die a free man., but I don’t want the fight for gun rights to become a physical one. I’m getting too old for this shit.
What I want is for America to be a place where peaceable citizens are armed as they see fit, whether for hunting, defense from violent crime, sport…or for the more traditional purpose of reminding our government that it works for us. I want an America where you can do whatever the hell you want, as long as you don’t hurt anyone else.
Tomorrow morning, I’m voting for guns…and I’m voting for peace.
